MEET THE TEAM
Sneha Kasturi Rangan
Chair
I’m Sneha Kasturi Rangan from Chennai, India; chair of the Value of Design Committee 2024. I’m a second-year master’s in Structural Engineering student with a love for bridges and dancing.
I’m excited about the symposium as the committee carefully curates it with great enthusiasm to make it a thought-provoking experience for the attendees. The symposiums aim to cover the hot topics for both architects and civil engineers like user-centered and inclusive design with an emphasis on structural efficiency and aesthetics. Also, distinguished personalities from the civil engineering and architecture field are invited worldwide for the symposium.
Working with the committee has been a wonderful experience. Everyone on the committee is unique in their own way and combining all our ideas was a challenge but I must say it was super exciting. I hope all of you enjoy the symposium we put together and leave with fascinating insights and motivation.
Nick Ruigrok
Secretary
I am a Civil Engineering student with a special love for construction materials.
At the moment of writing this, months in advance, we have all already been putting in a lot of work behind the scenes to deliver you an experience which will broaden your engineering view, no matter your current area of expertise. It has been especially interesting to get extra input on the layout of both the workshops and speaker presentations from the contacted people to make sure we are not just putting out any other boring lecture and thus are able to guarantee a high quality.
Being in charge of such a big event together with the rest of the committee is very exciting and I hope to see everyone reading this there on the 14th of May to finally see it come to fruition together.
Hrishika Rastogi
Treasurer
Hey there! I'm Hrishika Rastogi, treasurer for VoD 2024, and a second-year master's enthusiast in Structural Engineering at TU Delft. When I'm not diving deep into the fascinating world of construction or 'cultivating creativity', you can find me juggling numbers and ideas for our symposium.
It's been an exhilarating journey for me, filled with excitement. Working alongside such a remarkable group of friends, where everyone embodies the spirit of 'keeping up with innovations', has been incredibly motivating. Every meeting feels like a new adventure, a blend of 'timeless and modern design' thinking, brimming with fun challenges that we tackle together.
Laura Juric
Logistics
Hello everyone! I am Laura Juric, a Structural Engineering student, specialised in steel structures. In the Value of Design committee, I have the function of taking care of all Logistics-related tasks. I am allowed, even encouraged to be a bit of a control freak, making sure that everything goes to plan during the symposium.
Symposia are a way for students to learn more about their field, through engaging lectures about relevant, and often pressing topics, and workshops where they can challenge themselves to think outside of the box. For me, attending symposia has always given me motivation to learn more, and I would love for the Value of Design symposium of 2024 to do the same for my fellow students.
Rens Hoekstra
Acquisition
When I was asked to be part of the organisation of the Value of Design, I didn't need to think twice. The focus on bringing engineers and architects together is something I really like. And to be able to organise a symposium like this, will be an exciting experience. With Blueprints of Tomorrow, the theme anticipates on the challenges laying ahead of us as the next generation of engineers and architects. And to be able to spend the day with fellow students and learn from the best will be amazing.
I have a deep interest and passion in the engineering of buildings, and to be able to hear the stories of amazing speakers and doing workshops with the partnering companies has me thrilled already!
Jill Mulders
Speakers
My name is Jill Mulders and I am a second-year master's student in Structural Engineering. Being part of Value of Design's organization is an amazing experience, and it has brought (and will continue to bring) me many wonderful things. As a committee, we are bursting with enthusiasm, devotion and friendship, which are crucial for an event of Value of Design's scale and months of organizing the symposium.
We are aiming to create a symposium which is interesting for a wide variety of students and with many engaging activities, including workshops, speakers and a panel discussion. For me, it is really wonderful to work closely with academia and industry to create a connection and find how the two can influence and learn from each other. This is of utmost importance for working towards a more future-proof society. I hope that we -together with speakers, companies and panellists- can engage and inspire students from today to think about tomorrow.
Lukas Huber
Promotion
Innovation and cutting edge technologies were the main reason for me to presue a Masters degree in Civil Engineering at TU Delft. Embracing a mindset that isn't confined by conventional boundaries and being open to changes are attributes often overlooked in the construction industry. Through the organization of the Value of Design symposium, I hope to create greater awareness of these crucial aspects, by getting inspired by exciting and innovative projects.
Aside my education I gathered some insights into the profession of Civil Engineers, unveiling a distinct need for a more cohesive design process involving both engineers and architects. The collaboration between these two professions is at the core of the Value of Design philosophy, a principle that resonates with me deeply. The prospect of mutual learning is particularly exhilarating—we can all glean valuable insights from one another.
Luuk van Kouwen
Being part of the VoD committee as QQ has made me rather thrilled. The symposium aims to connect engineers and architects and I think it is of great importance to always maintain this dialogue. Both disciplines are essential in the construction industry and by narrowing this gap, the Value of Design of projects is ought to be enriched. The symposium’s topic represents both disciplines; upcoming innovations and how to approach this; achieving timeless and “modern” design; sustainability goals such as enhancing structural lifespan and many more!
As for myself, I love being part of projects which connect students from an educational and social angle. Investing time with a committee for a project you have been striving for several months brings great satisfaction upon achieving. I aim to bring the committee this same joy and create comradery whilst doing so.
Tessel van Oers
Greetings! I'm Tessel and I am honoured to serve as a QQ of the committee alongside Luuk for the upcoming symposium. As a building engineering student, my interests lie in blending the worlds of architecture and structural design, which aligns with the theme 'blueprints of tomorrow'.
As we are preparing for the symposium, I'm thrilled to introduce the many interesting subjects which will be talked about during the workshops and the symposium. Hopefully bringing architects and civil engineers a bit closer together by focusing on their similarities instead of their differences. So, join us on this journey into the world of design, innovation and collaboration.
